Project: Make a spider for my niece
My niece loves all things creepy crawly, especially spiders..... except at night. So to try and help her worries of spiders coming into her bedroom, I made this super friendly Pink Back Spider who will tell all the unfriendly spiders to go away.

Peg Fairies
Project: Make fairies using dolly pegs
These are the kids' versions of Tinkerbell and Terence. They chose the colours and decorated the wings. I cut and glued. They stuck. The fairies are hung above their beds with the stars.

Kids' Hats
Pattern: Kids' Hat by Nicole Mallalieu
Take 2 of my boy's much loved hat to replace the one that was lost. It took some fancy patchwork to be able to use the scraps I had left of the astronaut fabric.

Lacing Cards
Project: Lacing cards
I made these cards so the kids to start sewing with me. The cards are made using really heavy cardboard and a hole-puncher. To thread, the kids used wool and wool needles.

Modifed Laptop Bag
Pattern: Modified Laptop Bag Pattern from Nicole Mallalieu
My sister has a favourite bag that is very tired so she asked for a new bag for her birthday. I got her to write a wish list for "her perfect bag" and managed to incorporate all her requests, albeit with some unpicking and resewing... twice! I used Nicole's Laptop Pattern as a base and made changes where needed: a front buckle, webbing straps that run down to the base, a zipper pocket, a clip for keys and two pockets, one just the right size for her phone.

Guitar Singlets
Project: Make matching singlets
I bought some baby pants and singlets and wanted them to match. So I stitched on guitars because both babies have guitar playing dads.

Refashion: Toy Dog Collars
Refashioned: a pair of stripey shoelaces
Into: dog collars for toy dogs
A gift for my dog-obsessed niece. My sister and I transformed shoelaces into six different sized dog collars. We sewed on rings from keyrings so that a lead can be clipped on them. Even toy dogs need to be walked.

Zipper Purses
Pattern: Make Up Purses from Nicole Mallalieu

For this purse, I used a swivel hook to add a detachable strap so it can be used as a purse or a small bag.
These are longer and shorter than the pattern because I have grand plans to fit specific things into them.

Skivvy Upgrade
Project: Fancy up a plain skivvy
It seems my girl has decided it's no more afternoon sleeps for her so we spent the time together "fancying" up her pink skivvy. I asked her to draw a picture and she told me it was Tinkerbell. So now she has her version of Tink on her skivvy.

Owl Mobile
Project: Owl Mobile
This is a present for a soon-to-be-here baby. Her room is pink and green so I stuck with the colours for this mobile. I wanted something different from the usual cross that most mobiles are. The owls are made from felt with patterned bellies. The stick is from the garden, sanded and lacquered.

Refashion: Deck Chairs
Project: New covers for Two Deck Chairs
I bought these deck chairs from the Op Shop for $3 each. The new covers are not a perfect fit but they are perfect for sitting in the sun, with a cuppa, watching the kids play.

Laptop Bag
Pattern: Laptop Bag from Nicole Mallalieu
This bag is for my husband so to "man" it up a bit, I used VERY heavy duty canvas, sewed the webbing into the base so it runs along the edge of the bag, included a 50mm buckle on the strap and added buckles on the front. I divided the inside into two pockets - one for the laptop and one for other stuff. It is lined with corduroy and instead of interfacing, I used 5mm rubber. It gave the bag extra structure and extra padding.

Fairy Wings
Project: Fairy Wings for Horse and Bug
Using template plastic, we made fairy wings for Horse and Bug. The kids decorated them with textas then sprinkled fairy dust (aka glitter) on them. It was easy to attach Horse's wings using an elastic loop. Bug was a little more challenging, given that he is, well, flat! So his wings stay on using magnets - one on his front and one on the wings at the back.

Refashion: Art Smocks
Refashioned: two men's raincoats ($1 each from Op Shop)
Into: two waterproof, easy to wipe art smocks
Pattern: Lincraft Back to School #1016 (50c from Op Shop)
I got sick of having to scrub off paint and soak clothes after each painting session!
